OUR PHILOSOPHY

We believe that each child is uniquely individual and we make it a priority to offer programs and an environment that facilitate growth in these key areas:

  • Physical

  • Emotional

  • Social

  • Intellectual

To achieve this we have created an environment that is safe and warm, yet at the same time is challenging and stimulating.  As a result of this environment we believe that the children will learn and build upon existing skills such as:

  • Problem solving

  • Cooperation

  • communication

We also build upon intrinsic values such as

  • independence,

  • respect for self and others,

  • self-esteem and self-worth

  • individual choice

  • and motivation to interact with the environment.

OUR PHILOSOPHY in PRACTICE

Free Play ► Upon arrival each day and at various times throughout the day, your child will have the freedom to explore and choose activities of their choice.

Creative Activities►   Each day your child will have the freedom to explore materials creatively.  This would include: painting, play dough, cutting, gluing, coloring and more.  Usually our creative activities are based on themes that are set by the children’s interests.

Gathering Time ►Each day will include a gathering time in which all the children get an opportunity to learn through sharing of stories, singing, discussions on theme topics and more.

Table Time► Each day the children will be given an opportunity to learn about basic concepts such as: early phonetics, shapes, basic printing and more.  This will be accomplished while working with age-appropriate materials.

Outside Play► In order to encourage gross motor skills, outside play is encouraged each day, weather permitting.

Reading Center ►A reading center is available at all times with a variety of books for children to choose from. The selection of books will relate to themes we are concentrating on at that time.

Game / Puzzle Shelf ► A selection of games and puzzles are available at all times.  The include building blocks, Tinkertoy building pieces, Lego, felt boards, as well as various other toys to encourage a variety of learning skills.

Technology► Child lead interests are an important part of our program. A smart board is used to tailor activities to specific interests of the children. We make use of educational information via internet to highlight learning. Eg. Documentaries on volcanoes, weather, animals, etc. can be shown to the children as a supplementary material.

Parental Involvement ►We have an open door policy. Family pictures may be requested and a form will be sent home at that time. We have a monitor at the front door for parents to see a little of what we are doing during our day. The children are very proud of their pictures!
